American Sports Entertainment Company (“ASEC”) and Ammons Ventures Acquire Six Acres of Land at Polar Ice Raleigh

-Plan to Construct a Second Ice Rink and Upgrade Facility

Raleigh, NC August 17, 2023 – ASEC, which owns and operates five Polar Ice branded ice rinks in Wake County, and Ammons Ventures are proud to announce the land acquisition and plans to develop the facility into a twin-sheet ice arena. The purchase further strengthens the partners’ commitment to ice sports in the Triangle Region. Polar Ice Raleigh is conveniently located in the center of the greater Raleigh area, and already serves thousands of hockey players, figure skaters, campers, and recreational skaters annually.

“We are excited about the acquisition, and we look forward to quickly developing and executing plans to construct a second ice rink to enhance service for our figure skaters, hockey players, and their families,” said Mike Baxter, ASEC’s southeastern SVP. “We are expanding and enhancing the facility to accommodate the significant growth that we and our long-term partners, including the Carolina Hurricanes, Carolina Jr. Hurricanes, NC Golden Bears, and Raleigh Raptors have effectuated by working closely together over the past 15 years in the market.

The expansion of the Polar Ice Raleigh facility, which will commence in 2024, will accommodate continued ice sports growth and development of figure skaters and hockey players for many years. Baxter continued “ASEC is thrilled about the opportunity to continue working with Jeff Ammons to transform Polar Ice Raleigh into a premier twin sheet ice skating facility.

Jeff’s vision as a developer brought the Wake Competition Center to life in Morrisville, and we look forward to additional potential expansion projects with Jeff at WCC in the near future.” WCC is home to the Carolina Hurricanes, Jr. Hurricanes, and the world-class Accelerator School, which specializes in hockey and soccer training with a strong academic curriculum.
ASEC and Ammons have already engaged the Raleigh-based architectural firm, New City Design, to begin work on preliminary drawings in order to expedite the planning, design and approval process.
